Spring has sprung! Pollen is in the air, spring training has begun in Florida and Arizona, and millions of households across the country are feeling the urge to do a thorough cleaning of their living spaces. Spring cleaning has long been a loose tradition cherished by many of us, but are we doing it efficiently? The good news is that we can always learn new strategies and turn to Birmingham-area shops to assist us in using the changing of seasons as inspiration to transition our home into the one we have always wanted. Here are a few important tips to take in before you begin your Spring cleaning for the year.
Get Creative With Space
You can’t easily change the dimensions of your rooms, but you can easily get creative with the space that you do have. Innovative companies like Closets By Design of Central Alabama expand what storage space looks like - and make it appealing to the eyes. Everything from pantries to walk-in closets and media centers suddenly switch from clumpy to pristine.
Organize Your Fridge
A happy stomach is one of the quickest paths to a happy life, and this starts with an organized fridge. Similar to any room in our home, the cleanliness and order of our refrigerator lead to a more peaceful life. We know where to find our favorite foods. We don’t lose track of things and let them expire. And we have something beautiful to look at every time we open the portal to this cool food haven.
Focus On Windows
There’s nothing like natural light to brighten a room (and our mental well-being). Cleaning our windows and dusting the blinds that cover them brings even more light and good vibes to our day-to-day. This can be an easy errand to overlook, but makes a world of difference.
Clean Your Walls
The floors in our homes tend to get a good cleaning on at least a semi-regular basis, but their vertical brethren hardly get shown a similar love. While walls aren’t being stepped on daily, they do still get dirty. Use your Spring Cleaning to show some attention to the walls in your home.
Get Under Your Furniture
Your space may look clean, but would it still look nice if you were to look under all the furniture? Take some time to move your pieces around so that you can more thoroughly clean the spaces around and under them - along with the furniture itself!
Dust Your Fans
Fans are a wonderful household luxury that often gets taken for granted, but it’s important that we show them the same love that they give us. One simple way of doing so is dusting our fans during our Spring cleaning rituals. The buildup can happen fast, and this is a great way of protecting our own airways as we begin to turn our ceiling fans on in the warmer weather.
Donate/Repurpose Your Clothes
Clothing can take up a lot of space in our closets, dressers, and beyond. Many of these items may not have even been worn over the past year. Go through your clothes and see what you really plan to continue wearing and donate the rest. If something is too used to be donated it can be repurposed into wash clothes or even a memory quilt. A good way to see what you actually wear is to flip all your clothes one way after Spring cleaning and turn them around after you wear them. You will soon see what is worn and what is not in a more clear light.
Spring cleaning is a great way for us to help feel refreshed and renewed to start a new season, especially when done efficiently. Smart storage choices and quality cleaning practices go a long way in helping us do so.
