The Kickback and Vibestreet Studios are two Birmingham treasures that uplift the city through entertainment, fashion, media, activism, and much more. The two brands are once again coming together for their third annual “Gift a Jit” toy drive that benefits the “Christmas in the Village” program with Oak Tree Ministries. The drive ends this Wednesday, December 14th, and has received a lot of support so far. Gifts can be dropped off at Vibestreet Studios, Magic City Mercantile, Seasick Records, and Sidewalk Cinema.
The goal of the drive is simple: to make sure that every child in the city has a gift to unwrap on Christmas Day. “It started as a COVID response since we knew a lot of people were laid off/furloughed so we thought what better way to be a blessing,” Melvin Griffin with The Kickback shares, “Micah and I are also both from Birmingham and both of our companies missions are deeply rooted in community and we always strive to lift people up to where they want to be.”
A spark was created through good intentions in hard times for so many in the city and continues to build into something bigger with each new year. “The support has grown tremendously over the years. Word has spread to a lot of other brands and companies and we’re beyond thankful,” the kind-hearted entrepreneurs share, “Every share, like, every story post helps us spread the Holiday cheer. We plan on doing this every year. To the people who donated: we appreciate you more than you know. We can’t do any of this without you all!
We have until Wednesday to bring even more gifts, and know there will be plenty of more opportunities to help our community thanks to these two organizations!
