The 2023 college football bowl season is here. We’ve already seen some very entertaining matchups including close wins by UAB and Troy in the early games. There are still plenty of important games to come. South Alabama plays on December 21st, Alabama has a New Year’s Eve battle against Kansas State, Mississippi State will be playing in honor of Coach Mike Leach on January 2nd, and we still have the College Football Playoffs to enjoy. It’s going to be a strong couple of weeks for the sport, and the Magic City is a proud contributor with the TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl.
The TicketSmarter bowl game takes place on Tuesday, December 27th, at 5:45pm. Protective Stadium will be hosting the event, which sees the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers take on the East Carolina Pirates. The game will be shown on ESPN but Birmingham residents have the opportunity to watch the festivities live and in person. The 9-3 Chanticleers are coming off a solid season that ended with a loss to Troy in the Sun Belt Conference Championship and will take on a confident East Carolina team that finished the regular season with a 7-5 record.
The fun begins on Monday in Birmingham. The Bud Light Fan Fest Pep Rally will be taking place in Uptown from 1 to 6pm. The festivities will include live music, interactive games, a kids' play zone, and pep rallies featuring the coaches, players, bands, cheerleaders, and fans of each team. Birmingham residents know how much the Uptown area has grown in recent years, which will make for an excellent backdrop for these fun events. The evening will end with a firework show at 6pm.
The fun picks right back up the next day as Bud Light brings their Fan Fest Tailgate to Uptown. Live music will be playing from 1 to 5pm and there will be more games and festivities for people to enjoy while heading to the game. It’s going to be an exciting two days in Birmingham leading up to the TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl and we can’t wait to give a Magic City welcome to our friends coming from the Carolinas!
