The Magic City has been doing its darndest to ensure that its residents are entertained. The first three months of the year have been a whirlwind of festivals, legendary musicians, once in a lifetime memories, and thousands of community moments. This week’s events are a testament to the diversity of the entertainment options found in the area. Sports, comedy, creative celebrations, and concerts blend for one endless good time for those seeking it. Here are a few of our favorite happenings to frequent this week.
Birmingham Bulls v Evansville Thunderbolts in Pelham (Thursday)
Have you been to a Birmingham Bulls game before? The team brings the rush of hockey (and all the fun promotions that come with it!) up close and personal for the people of Birmingham. Home games, including this Thursday’s bout against the Evansville Thunderbolts, are played at the Pelham Civic Complex & Ice Arena. On a side note, I applied for a Bulls marketing position when the team first came back in 2016 and late owner Art Clarkson gave me one of the most memorable job interviews in a 1990s sport owner kind of way that only he could. I still think about it often.
Druski: Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda Tour at The BJCC (Friday)
Druski may be trending for a recent stumble of late, but the comedian has been doing nothing but elevating when it comes to popularity. Millions of people keep track of this personality’s latest moves and jokes, which will be live in Birmingham at The BJCC on Friday night. There’s a reason this event closed out About Town’s must-sees of March list - it’s going to be a fun one.
2023 Cherry Blossom Festival at Birmingham Botanical Gardens (Saturday)
One of the most beautiful events in the Magic City is returning this Saturday at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. The 2023 Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival (Sakura Matsuri) is a celebration of both beautiful plants and beautiful cultures. Musical performances, martial arts displays, and more will be taking place from 10am to 4pm at this free and fun event.
April Fooled at The Marble Ring (Saturday)
Don’t be a fool this Saturday, and make sure to check this uniquely April 1st event happening at The Marble Ring. The speakeasy is hosting one night dedicated to those “looking for the perfect spot to enjoy delicious cocktails while being insulted, or placed in uncomfortable situations." The April Fools special features "great cocktails and terrible service - not for the sensitive.”
Goose Spring Tour 2023 at Avondale Brewing (Sunday)
Goose is hot! The band has seen a sharp rise in popularity throughout the jam music scene over the last couple of years, largely thanks to their thrilling live performances. Birmingham will soon get the full goose experience as the band comes to Avondale Brewing this Sunday night. The venue is upping the fun even more with a concert afterparty featuring the Captain Midnight Band at The Upstairs at Avondale following the Goose concert.
