It’s madness this week in Birmingham! March madness that is. People will be parading through the streets, losing themselves to music, and one of the country’s biggest sporting traditions is coming back to town for what is a historically fun week in the Magic City. The hardest part of this week will be getting some rest between all the once-in-a-lifetime memories that will be made. Here are a few of the events that we are most looking forward to.
Subtronics at Iron City (Wednesday)
If you are looking for the bass, Iron City will be your ideal destination this Wednesday evening as Subtronics comes into town along with Blanke, Leotrix, and Austeria. This was named as one of our most anticipated March shows for a reason, and the Iron City Grill’s EDM afterparty with Aleatorien only adds to the good time.
2023 March Madness NCAA Tournament at the Legacy Arena (Thursday and Saturday)
Alabama and Auburn will both be playing in the 2023 March Madness tournament. Better yet, both teams are playing their opening games right here in Birmingham at the Legacy Arena! Talk about an exciting week. Alabama plays the winner of Texas A&M CC and Southeast Missouri State on Thursday at 1:45pm. Auburn will take on Iowa at 5:45pm. Maryland vs. West Virginia and North Kentucky and Houston will be playing at 8:20pm. Saturday’s events will feature competitions between the winners of these first-round games.
Ferus Presents: Grammy Award-Winning Rebirth Brass Band (Saturday)
Ferus Artisan Ales in Trussville put together quite an impressive show run last year, and is starting the 2023 concert season calendar off on just as astounding footing with the Rebirth Brass Band! The Saturday evening show is free and will feature an opening performance by Queen City Avenue.
Saturn Spring Flea (Saturday)
This is for everyone who has complimented my retro green windbreaker - be at Saturn on Saturday at noon for the Spring Flea Market! You will be walking the aisles minding your own business then boom, someone tells you to buy an item and it becomes your most talked about possession to date. Guaranteed.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 5 Points South (Saturday)
Birmingham loves us some St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. Festivities will be happening all week, but the parade is one sight you don’t want to miss. This year's event takes place on Saturday, March 18th, on its usual 5 Points South path from 1:30 to 2:30pm. All the area bars and restaurants are part of the celebration, so get there early for an extra good time!
