Birmingham is on fire when it comes to events. Lil Wayne, Orville Peck, Wilco, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, and Janet Jackson are just a few of the huge names that have come to the city in recent weeks. And the best part is the local entertainment is just as much fun as these big names! There is truly something to do every night for every type of person on any kind of budget. Not every city can say this, which makes it a fun time to be in the Magic City. Here are a few things we’d recommend checking out this week.
The Upstairs Comedy Series Presents: James Austin Johnson at The Upstairs at Avondale (Wednesday)
The new Saturday Night Live cast has really found its groove in recent months, and James Austin Johnson has been a huge part of this rising chemistry. The Upstairs Comedy Series, which is put on by Wes Van Horn, has similarly been finding its footing on a more local level. Worlds collide with JAJ comes to The Upstairs at Avondale this Wednesday evening in what is one of our most anticipated shows of the month.
Adult Laser Tag Night at Spare Time Trussville (Thursday)
Everybody loves laser tag, but kids often take over the market. When can us adults truly have a game to ourselves where everyone is over similar competitive mindsets, you ask? How about this Thursday from 8 to 11pm at Spare Time Trussville! In addition to laser tag, there will be unlimited games (with no rewards available for the evening) to keep people entertained while waiting.
Project Pat Live at Zydeco (Friday)
A Southern hip-hop legend will be in the Magic City this Friday night at Zydeco. Project Pat has carved out a historical career through his solo work and as a member of the famed Three 6 Mafia of Memphis, Tennessee. He is joined by Birmingham favorites including Q Dot Davis and Frank Luke for what is going to be a great start to the weekend.
Robert Plant & Alison Krauss: Raising the Roof at Oak Mountain Amphitheatre (Saturday)
We started this article off by listing legends that have come to Birmingham in recent weeks, and the city’s resume is about to look even better this Saturday evening. Robert Plant and Alison Krauss are coming to the Oak Mountain Amphitheatre to treat Magic City residents to a once-in-a-lifetime concert experience. We would highly recommend finding your way to Pelham for this event.
Umphrey’s McGee at Avondale (Sunday)
Umphrey’s McGee is meant for the Avondale Brewing backyard. The Birmingham sunset, great brews, and a blend of jam and rock music that makes the listener feel like they are lost in time itself all blend together to make for an unforgettable evening. If you’ve seen them once, you understand why seeing Umphrey’s is so important. Be there this Sunday!
