If you like good music, good drinks, and some healthy competition then Birmingham is the city for you. Our food and beverage scene is becoming known as a national treasure, and our local music and arts scenes are growing at a similarly steady pace. Every day brings the chance for a new adventure - whether it’s at the theater or the roller derby match. This week is another testament to this fact. Here are a few of the events we are most looking forward to.
Orville Peck at Iron City (Thursday)
Orville Peck has quickly become one of the most admired country musicians in the country, and residents of Alabama can’t seem to get enough of him! The excitement will reach its peak this Thursday evening at Iron City. The show was sold out but a few more tickets opened up so there is still a chance to get in on one of our most anticipated shows of April.
Hansel & Gretel at the Alabama School of Fine Arts (Friday)
Hansel & Gretel is one of the most famous tales of all time. The trials faced by a brother and sister trying to escape a hungry witch will be displayed by Opera Birmingham with help from members of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra on Friday night at the DJD Theatre at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. There’s not a better way to take in this classic.
Magic City Mimosa Festival at Sloss Furnaces (Saturday)
Mimosas will be the center of attention in the Magic City this Saturday at Sloss Furnaces! There will also be live music and great food options - but it’s the delicious breakfast beverage that is the star of the Magic City Mimosas Festival. This is a tough choice to beat if you want a guaranteed good time.
Record Store Day at Seasick Records (Saturday)
Seasick is known for their extravagantly fun Record Store Day celebrations, but damn did they go all out for 2023. This Saturday’s festivities includes sets from local favorites like DJ Andromeda & SlowFast Hazel, DJ Updog, and Victoria Hallman. The day is taken to the next level with a live performance of St. Paul and the Broken Bones, who will also be signing copies of their new record “Angels In Science Fiction.” This is a big event for the whole city to enjoy.
Tragic City Rollers Home Bout at The Boutwell Auditorium (Saturday)
We’ve recently shared our thoughts on how great a time it is to be a sports fan in the Magic City, and the Tragic City Rollers are a huge part of this energy. The Birmingham roller derby team and their inflatable dinosaur mascot leave it all on the rink every time they go out, and the fans put just as much energy into supporting. This Saturday’s home bout against the Classic City Roller Girls at Boutwell Auditorium is a can’t miss event.
