We are halfway into December and the holiday season is in full swing. Office parties are happening in abundance, gifts are being bought with both love and swiftness, and there are a series of magical annual events that only happen around this time of year. Birmingham has plenty of such celebratory occasions. Here are a few of our favorite events to see come around each year. 

Trans-Siberian Orchestra - The Ghost of Christmas Eve (December 15th)

The Trans-Siberian Orchestra is known for electric takes on classic songs, alongside a fantastic light show. The massive musical experience is especially revered for their Christmas-time concerts. The 2023 show in Birmingham takes place on December 15th at The BJCC. This is a one-of-a-kind night out that we’d highly recommend seeing.

Alabama Theatre Holiday Film Series (Through December 21st)

What’s your favorite Christmas movie? It’s a pretty tough question to answer, but chances are you could watch it in the most magnificent setting you could imagine if you find yourself in Birmingham in December. The Alabama Theatre Holiday Film Series shows classics ranging from A Charlie Brown Christmas and Elf to It’s A Wonderful Life and Die Hard. This experience truly can’t be found anywhere else. 

Wacky Tacky Light Tour (Through December 22nd)

There are many great Christmas lights to see in Birmingham area neighborhoods, but how does one find the time or the strategy to see the most dedicated of the bunch? The Wacky Tacky Light Tour helps solve that problem with an adventure full of laughs that also happens to be for a great cause.

Little Raine Band Day After Christmas Show (December 26th)

The Little Raine Band Day After Christmas Show has provided memories and a fun tradition to look forward to for many people in the Magic City, including this writer. This year’s festivities take place at Saturn with their fellow jam band extraordinaires in Tragic City. Why not make the 26th another day of celebration during the most holiday-packed week of the year? 

Lights of Noel Drive-Thru Holiday Light Show (Through January 2nd)

One of the most fun things to enjoy during this colorful time of year is a light show display. Driving shows are great because they put the most spectacular lights you can imagine all in one place and let you enjoy it from the warmth of your car. The Lights of Noel show at the Birmingham Race Course is the largest in the state and is open daily at 5pm. Talk about a fun time for the whole family!
