July 4th is nearly upon us, and Birminghamians are ready to celebrate liberty and freedom with grilling sessions, hanging out by the water, and plenty of fireworks. Fortunately, there are plenty of great places to get the mortars, bottle rockets, roman candles, sparklers, and every sort of explosive celebration device our hearts desire. A short drive down most interstates will bring a brightly colored fireworks sign on the horizon, but About Town is here to ensure that you get the best bang for your buck.
South Birmingham
One of the finest firework options can be found at the Fireworks Shed on Highway 280, and is where this writer went to buy his explosive treasures with his family growing up. Located close to the highway’s intersection with 119, this legendary firework spot is a short drive for most throughout the Greater Birmingham Metro (even with 280 traffic). Crazy Bill’s also has two impressive locations south of the big city in Bessemer (off Morgan Road near the Bessemer Municipal Airport) and Alabaster (off I-65 and Highway 31) specifically.
East Birmingham
One of the fiercest firework sales battles (in a friendly way) takes place on Roebuck Parkway, where another Crazy Bill’s faces a Ninja Fireworks that is right across the street. I’m sure employees at both stores would claim that they are the finest in the land, but it’s up to each individual customer to make that decision for themselves. Other great options on this side of Birmingham include Supershow Fireworks in Trussville off of I-59) and the TNT Fireworks Supercenter in Leeds off of I-20.
North Birmingham
Another epic firework dealer showdown takes place near Tarrant with Crazy Bill’s and Super Show Fireworks of Birmingham fighting for attention off of 79. Whichever option you choose, you are bound to create a night of memories and colorful bangs with friends and family while visiting either North Bham location.
West Birmingham
Just Northwest of Birmingham in Forestdale sits two great firework options, once again within walking distance from each other. Ninja Fireworks and TNT are both located off of Forestdale Boulevard and provide all the 4th of July celebration tools that your heart desires! There is no shortage of fireworks in Birmingham this year, and we encourage everyone to practice safety while enjoying the holiday weekend!
