School is starting back soon, and that means squeezing in any last minutes of family fun we can! It’s a good thing the Magic City is offering events for guests of all ages this weekend and further into the future. To start off all of the fun, the district of Avondale will be hosting Secret Stages with tons of new names from within the music industry playing on multiple stages throughout the weekend! In addition to that, Art After 5: Afrofuturism in the Magic City will be taking place at the Birmingham Museum of Art. We will also be looking ahead to KIDS Korner with the YWCA and Club Gaston with A.G. Gaston Boys and Girls Club. Read on for more info!

Secret Stages

Bringing you the best bands you haven’t heard of yet is Secret Stages, taking place in the Avondale District of Downtown Birmingham! 2021’s Music Discovery Festival will host over 30 bands across two days and three stages. With local names including: Rude & True, Dree Leer, GT, and many more plus several non-local new artists like Becca Mancari from Nashville and Rose Hotel out of Atlanta. Art After 5: Afrofuturism in the Magic City

The Magic City is back to the future and the Birmingham Museum of Art is throwing its first in-person party to celebrate! Join the museum for drinks, music, and art as they honor Afrofuturism within Birmingham. This event is inspired by the iconic artist and Birmingham native, Sun Ra who recorded over 100 albums before his death in 1993. Exhibits will include DJ’s providing the vibe of soulful tunes, Sun Ra Film Screening of the title “Space is the Place”, a booth for making Galactic Eyewear, and an Art Scavenger Hunt. Tickets for this event will be free of charge, so make sure you stop by the Birmingham Museum of Art to support the Afrofuturism style.

All proceeds from the event, hosted by the YWCA Junior Board of Directors, will help support the YWCA Child Development Center and the children they serve each day.
