2020 has brought unprecedented challenges across every aspect of life and work worldwide. Incredible people have risen to the challenge—pivoting, reinventing, reimagining and working harder than ever before. Birmingham’s non-profit leaders transformed annual galas into virtual gatherings, transitioned runs into races for runners to complete on their own time, and innovated new ways to raise funds and provide services to those in need throughout the Magic City. We asked our nonprofit partners to nominate the volunteers who helped them get through this year. We are proud to spotlight some of the individuals who played integral roles as Birmingham’s 2020 Trailblazers.

Name: Cindy Bryan

Work: Partner at Dent Moses, LLP

Charity: The Junior League of Birmingham

Motivation: The Junior League of Birmingham has a longstanding history of investing in thoughtfully selected community projects by pairing financial support with the service of skilled volunteers to leverage the organization's impact. The numerous non-profit organizations created through this process which now thrive in the Birmingham community is truly inspiring. Serving the League has afforded me the opportunity to exponentially grow my knowledge of Birmingham, develop leadership skills, and build long-lasting relationships for which I am forever grateful.

What I Gained from 2020: I've been amazed at the strength, resilience, and determination of the Junior League of Birmingham's fund development team. I'm privileged to work alongside women who are committed to identifying and implementing plans to pivot our fundraisers so that we can safely raise funds to continue the delivery of meaningful community programs. Though the time we've spent together has been on Zoom, rather than in person, these women have truly been a bright spot and I'm inspired by their efforts.
