It’s been one of the best years ever for live music in the Magic City. Iconic acts and underground favorites have been coming through town at an incredible pace, ensuring that each month features a wonderful music experience for fans of every genre. This strong streak holds steady as we near the end of summer and approach the cool fall months. Here are some of the shows we are looking forward to most before September 22nd!
Local Natives at Iron City (Friday, August 19th)
Local Natives have been on playlists to memorable Magic City moments for more than a decade, and continue to deliver a live show that provides all the ingredients for a memorable evening. Iron City’s fine dining and world-famous air conditioning complement the lively atmosphere. We’d certainly recommend checking them out this Friday.
Lee Baines & The Glory Fires with Loamlands at The Nick (Friday, August 26th)
To know Lee Baines is to love Lee Baines. The Birmingham-raised musician rocks with a Southern twist in a manner that unites all who seek a more unified country. His new album “Old-Time Folks” is a Rolling Stone-approved ode to the working man, and the rock star’s return to the site of his famous live album is sure to be a party. Make sure to be at The Nick on August 26th.
Snail Mail w/ Momma and Hotline TNT at Saturn (Friday, August 26th)
Snail Mail is two albums into her career and one of the most praised musicians in the nation. The indie rockstar will bring her live show to the Saturn stage on August 26th with Momma and Hotline TNT.
The Dirty Guv’nahs and The Stews at Avondale Brewing (Saturday, August 27th)
The Dirty Guv’nahs are a Southern treasure, and they were one that many of us thought we may never see again after the group took a hiatus from music before the pandemic. Fortunately, we can see them again along with The Stews at Avondale Brewing on Saturday, August 27th.
Sam Norris, Brotha Josh, Asholie, & TROOPER (Sunday, August 28th)
This free show at Saturn highlights some of the fastest rising stars in the Southern music scene. TROOPER, Asholie, Brotha Josh, and Sam Norris are all carving unique musical careers, and join forces for one night of great music at Saturn on August 28th.
Korn & Evanescence at Oak Mountain Amphitheatre (Thursday, September 1st)
Things are bound to get loud in Pelham on Thursday, September 1st, as Korn and Evanescence join forces to rock the socks off the greater Birmingham area. Oak Mountain Ampitheatre is the perfect host for this large-scale production that is going to be full of classic anthems.
Courtney Barnett at Iron City (Wednesday, September 7th)
Courtney Barnett is amongst the most renowned singer-songwriters on the planet, and the musician will be coming to Iron City next month for her September 9th show. The good people at Birmingham Mountain Radio continue their sponsorship run with the show, which is sure to be a fan-filled affair.
Gary Clark Jr. at Avondale Brewing (Friday, September 9th)
Gary Clark Jr. has become one of the key rock and roll figures of our generation, and his live performance is a large part of his global stardom. The opportunity to see him at one of the Magic City’s most scenic venues in Avondale on September 9th is an experience we’d recommend every see.
Alanis Morissette at Oak Mountain Ampitheatre (Friday, September 16th)
Although we are now accustomed to the Birmingham area bringing in the biggest musical acts from around the world, many were still surprised by the announcement of Alanis Morissette coming to Oak Mountain Ampitheatre on September 16th. You can bet a lot of classic tunes are going to be shout-sung by thousands this evening.
Thundercat at Iron City (Friday, September 16th)
Thundercat has been churning out his own hits while backing many of our other favorite songs, and is currently on tour with two of the biggest bands of the century in The Strokes and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Birminghamians can see the musician up close and personal at Iron City on September 16th.
The Mountain Goats at Saturn (Tuesday, September 20th)
The Mountain Goats have been pleasing ears since 1991, and the Josh Darnielle-led band continues to impress across the country today. The group’s show at Saturn on September 20th will include all sorts of favorites, including some from “Dark in Here” which was recorded in Muscle Shoals.
