No state does fall like Alabama, and no city has a better selection of beers for the season than Birmingham! Here are some of our favorite fall beers from local breweries to put you in the mood for a chilly walk through the woods or an afternoon on the porch taking in the colors of the autumn leaves!
Mumbai Rye
This American IPA comes jam-packed with spicy flavors balanced with the unique IPA taste that will remind you of fall in all the right ways. This far out brew would go perfectly with some spicy cheese or your favorite Thai or Indian meal.
Birmingham District Oktoberfest
The Birmingham District Oktoberfest is a true celebration of German/Bavarian culture that is well balanced with a rich, complex flavor profile that goes down smooth with notes of caramel. Pair this with a hearty sharp cheddar and a delicious sausage dog to really put you in the Oktoberfest spirit!
Avondale Brewing No Joke Mocha
Avondale’s No Joke Mocha is a coffee oatmeal stout that will remind you of crisp Autumn mornings out on the porch, just you and your coffee waiting for the sun to rise! The No Joke Mocha pours black with a tan head. It has a medium body with deep rich malts with a slight chocolate taste that adds just a bit of sweet. Then, it finishes with smooth oatmeal flavor. The coffee taste is there, but doesn’t dominate this delicious brew! This would go well with a sweet treat to counteract the stout flavors, or something savory to enhance the bitter coffee taste.
Trimtab Maple Cakes
The Trimtab Maple Cakes is a beverage made for a weekend at a cabin in the woods so you can drink this brew in peace. Made with maple syrup, walnuts, and molasses, this beverage screams “hey, it's fall y’all.” It's filled to the brim with a hearty stout taste, contrasted by the sweet maple syrup and earthy walnuts. This brew would go great with a sweet fall treat or a big helping of some delicious Thanksgiving turkey!
Back Forty Peanut Butter Porter
The legendary “comfort food in a can” is back! Brewed with crushed peanuts and an all natural peanut butter extract, you might want to slather this delicious brew on two slices of bread with some grape jelly, but we think it would better serve you outside under the warm sun right alongside an actual peanut butter sandwich or a big, ripe banana!
Cahaba Brewing Oktoberfest
This Oktoberfest brew is a traditional favorite with an Alabama twist. Brewed with continental malts, noble hops, and a unique Cahaba twist on the fermenting yeast, this is a beverage that is perfect for Fall sipping. When you take a swig, you’ll taste the rich malt, toasted bread, with a caramel finish. If you’re in the mood for food with your Oktoberfest, try pairing it with grilled meat and salty cheese that perfectly compliments the malty flavor!
Good People Urban Farmer
The Good People Urban Farmer is back for the fall season! With notes of white grape, lemongrass, black pepper, and savory dried spices, it’s an easy drinker made for urbanites looking to get a taste of the farm life! Pair this brew with a delicious piece of apple pie or some grilled meat for a perfect fall barbecue wherever you might be!
