The annual Pepper Place Holiday Open House will coincide with the City of Birmingham’s Eat in the Streets event series this weekend. The entertainment district will be transformed into a winter wonderland under 29th Street’s newly installed string light canopy. The two-day outdoor event will take place on Friday, December 4 from 5-9 p.m. and Saturday, December 5 from 3-9 p.m.
To get in the festive spirit, Hot & Hot Fish Club will serve Gumbo and wine/beer for $10. Their sister restaurant, OvenBird, will offer hot chocolate with Christmas cookies for $9.
Schedule:
Friday, December 4, 5-9 p.m.
Locals can enjoy an outdoor 7 p.m. showing of “A Christmas Story,” eat dinner from Pepper Place restaurants and listen to holiday music. There will also be an exclusive screening of the Magic City Nutcracker on 29th Street at 5 p.m. The 2020 Nutcracker Ballet moved from the stage to a digital production as it filmed its performance in iconic locations around Birmingham.
Saturday, December 5 3-9 p.m.
The official Pepper Place Holiday Open House will take place Saturday. The District is hosting a Makers Market featuring local artisans, like Ornaments 4 Orphans, Chocolatá and Infinite Soaps, from 3-9 p.m. in the Dr. Pepper parking lot. The community will also have the opportunity to take selfies with Santa from 3-7 p.m. and listen to live holiday music from the Trombone Shakers on 29th Steet from 5-9 p.m.
To ensure the safety of the collective during the event, locals must abide by social distancing guidelines, including maintaining a distance of six feet and wearing a face covering.
“Eat in the Streets has been a fantastic way to support our local restaurants as well as allow residents to enjoy the incredible meals they’ve come to love. Now that the holidays are upon us, it’s even more important to embrace the fellowship that the season brings, while also adhering to social distancing and facial covering guidelines. Eat in the Streets allows us to do both,’’ said Mayor Randall L. Woodfin.
