Can you believe that Latinos Con Onda are celebrating their fourth anniversary? That means we’ve already taken in four years of the ultimate dance parties complete with tasty food, unique vendors, and delicious beverages. The last four years even witnessed the organization release a unique beer collaboration with Ghost Train! Now, Latinos Con Onda are more ready to celebrate than ever with a massive party at Avondale Brewing on Saturday, August 19th beginning at 4pm, and an afterparty at Haven starting at 11pm. We sat down to ask the talented team behind the fun some questions.
Congratulations on four years! What does it mean to y’all to be celebrating this anniversary?
It’s definitely a milestone. The planning of this event and the support we have felt from the community made us realize that we are no longer just another party, we are an important part of the community in the Magic City and as such we strive to do our best to deliver quality events.
Do you have any favorite moments or memories over the last four years?
Every party is like a child, and we love them all equally. They have all given us beautiful moments. Each one has had its own magic. I used to enjoy small parties for their intimacy, but now with bigger parties we have a bigger team and more friends throwing out ideas and good vibes, so I think it’s the process that I have enjoyed and continue to enjoy.
The backyard at Avondale show is going to be a big one - not to mention the after party! What all should people expect at Saturday’s events?
In the afternoon: Lots of food, lots of cumbia, salsa classes, good vibes.
At night: Reggaeton and “tumbado” corridos, lots of perreo, dancing, sweat, and beautiful people.
A great lineup all day!
What does it mean to you to be doing all of this in Birmingham, Alabama?
We are very happy when first-generation Latinx kids born here thank us because our parties make them feel a sense of identity. It makes us want to keep throwing better parties. Personally, I no longer have to go to other cities to find something that I can now find in the Magic City.
Let’s get ready to celebrate - and dance!
