# 8 Tips for Turning Heads## and Making an Impression this Summer
By Becca Brown*The pollen has come and gone, foliage is in full bloom and it’s officially time to start getting your yard ready for a new season! Whether you’re looking to list your home soon or simply maintain a manicured look, it’s important to keep up your home’s exterior. If you’re unsure of where to start, here are eight tips for small changes that can pack a punch.*

1.  Give your yard a haircut. For immediate results, pull out that dusty lawn equipment, and get to work! A Saturday spent in the yard can yield a BIG impact. Be sure to mow and edge the grass, bag up leaves and other debris and trim up trees and hedges to get the full effect.  2.  Add a splash of color.Spring and summer are the seasons in which to experiment with color. To brighten up your front yard, try planting seasonal flowers, adding a colorful wreath to the front door or even repainting your front door a vibrant, unexpected color. 3.  Get the grime off.Remove dirt and grime from your home’s exterior and driveway through pressure washing. Don’t have a pressure washer? Rent one from a local hardware store, borrow from a friend or purchase one from a home improvement store; some retail for less than $300.  4.  Have a paint party.A fresh coat of paint can do wonders, especially for the exterior of your home. Try a new color, or simply freshen up your current look. If you don’t want to commit to the cost or labor of painting your entire home, try switching up the color of just your shutters, if you have them. 5.  Upgrade your mailbox.Mailboxes can suffer major wear and tear over time. If yours is sporting dents, rotting wood or just looks tired, get a new one! Home improvement stores carry relatively inexpensive mailboxes. Make sure to purchase modern mailbox numbers to add to your updated look. 6. Wash your windows.Clean, sparkly windows are easy and inexpensive to achieve. With some Windex and good, old-fashioned elbow grease, you can knock out this task in just a couple of hours. For maximum results, don’t forget to clean your windows from the inside, as well. 7.  Freshen your fixtures. If you’re hanging on to outdated lanterns, light fixtures or hardware, it may be time to replace them. Home improvement stores offer an array of stylish, attractive options at affordable prices.  8.  Fix up the roof.In addition to cleaning out your gutters, blowing off your roof is also a simple way to clean up the exterior of your home quickly. If your roof appears to be on its last leg, take a look at your home insurance policy to see if your provider may cover the cost, and under what circumstances.
