Birmingham is a beer-lovers town. Whether it’s a sour or an IPA that you want, perhaps a Double IPA even - the Magic City’s got you covered. Weekly microbrews and consistent favorites come from local standards like Avondale, Trim Tab, True Story, Birmingham District, Cahaba, Good People, Back Forty, Monday Night, Oak Mountain, Ghost Train, and more in the surrounding areas are readily available to treat our pallets with the utmost love. While it may seem like we have enough beer to supply the city many times over, Birminghamians have only grown more fond of trying new beers and supporting new breweries. Our thirst is far from quenched. Two breweries, Uproot Brewery and Hi-Wire, are jumping in to join this fun scene and leave their own imprint on the Magic City.

Hi-Wire Brewing

These murals by Ian Wilkinson already make Hi-Wire a must-visit. This image and cover image from Hi-Wire

Hi-Wire is already a Southeastern favorite when it comes to craft brew. The beer maestros started in North Carolina and have grown into an empire that features a steadily growing number of taprooms. Birmingham is joining Cincinnati and Nashville for next up on the Hi-Wire location list. The Magic City location is going to be a great one, with the taproom being a centerpiece for the new Lakeview Green concept that blends commerce, condominiums, and natural beauty. There will be a 24-tap bar featured at this late 2022 opening, and the Birmingham Facebook page has been teasing magnificent murals and more to help us get excited.

Uproot Brewery

Uproot Brewery has been winning over fans in the Magic City with some stellar releases and successful collaborations with Birmingham breweries. They have now become Birmingham’s newest brewery headquarters, and will open up in the original Ghost Train (and Cahaba) location on 1st Avenue South later this year. The arriving and departing (to their new location) breweries will come together for a collaboration and celebration to signify the handover of this great location. Uproot shares the location as a “brewpub and kitchen” which sounds perfect for the spot (and our bellies).

Two new breweries that bring two unique experiences to the Magic City. That sounds like something to raise a glass to.
