While ghost tours might be something you’ve done in historic cities like Savannah or New Orleans, you might not know that Birmingham has its own ghostly touring options. This year the Magic City marks its 150th year since its founding in 1871. That’s a lot of history! And while exploring the darker side of Birmingham history might be the initial draw, learning about the history of our city might be what you remember most.

Hauntings. The Paranormal. Is there something … beyond?
That heading alone from the company’s website had us hooked. With tours every evening, both walking and driving versions, The Birmingham Historic Touring Company is a boutique tour company devoted to strange, dark and unusual tours of Birmingham. Tour reviews consistently mention how entertaining and engaging the tours are for tourists and locals alike!
THE HOTELS, CHURCHES, AND RIOTS TOUR
“The Birmingham Ghost Walk – Hotels, Churches, and Riots Tour is our “main ghost tour”, and definitely the one that we recommend if you have not been on one of our tours before or if you are in town for only a single evening and wanting to experience tales of murders, suicides, and spirits of the past. This 90 minute walking tour covers some of our most spectacular bits of dark history while viewing some of our most historic buildings and standing where history happened and blood flowed.” - Birmingham Historic Touring Company
Southern Ghost Girls Tours
Making frequent stops in the Magic City, The Southern Ghost Girls Tours take you across the South to explore and learn about the paranormal past. These tours are expertly led by TV personality and Birmingham native, Lesley Ann Hyde.
This Thursday, July 8th, they make an appearance at the Thomas Jefferson Tower in Birmingham for an incredible investigation where they will search for numerous spirits of the past including many celebrities that have stayed there! Lesley Ann is ready to dive in and share everything there is to know about The TJ’s haunted past as a hotel and will include hands-on experience with paranormal investigation equipment. Dine beforehand at Roots and Revelry and make it a night on the town! And if you miss this week at TJ Tower, then you can catch them there again in October.
Plan ahead for August 27-28 and book their Gatsby Roaring 20s Themed Murder Mystery Dinner Event at Birmingham’s Historic Arlington House with optional Ghosts & Spirits of the Past and Haunts Walk of the Mansion and Grounds after dinner and once the mystery is solved! This event usually sells out so get your tickets early here.
