Eat in the Streets will be return to Pepper Place on Friday, Nov. 6 and Saturday, Nov. 7 to allow Birmingham, Alabama diners to eat outside at one of the Magic City's great restaurants while also social distancing. This weekend’s event will have a “Day of the Dead’’ theme to coincide with the city's Dia de los Muertos celebration. In partnership with the City of Birmingham, Pepper Place is closing down 29th Street between Second Avenue South and Third Avenue South to offer a socially-distant dining experience. Simply call & place an order at your favorite Pepper Place restaurant, pick it up and head to 29th Street. Friday night’s event will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. The movie “Coco’’ will be shown at 7 p.m. On Saturday, bands and DJs will provide entertainment. Saturday’s hours will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 to 10 p.m. This is a free event.

Friday, November 6th

Eat in the Streets Hours are from 5 to 10pm

  • 5pm – Inaugural lighting of the 29th Street lights (more on that below)
  • 6:30pm – Aztec Dancers
  • 7pm – Showing of the movie Coco on the South end of 29th St (past The Lumbar, by Jeni’s)

In addition, Blueroot & Naughty But Nice Kettle Corn will be popping up on 29th Street! Grab a snack (or two) before the movie starts.

Saturday, November 7th

Eat in the Streets Hours are from 11am to 2pm and 5 to 10pm

  • 11am to 2pm – Swing Theory will be performing in the loading dock on 29th Street by The Lumbar
  • 5 to 10pm – Live music from La Tropa Kumbiambera and Beats by Suaze and Mamalon Selector

Don’t forget that the Market at Pepper Place happens every Saturday from 7am to noon. You can enjoy the walk-thru Market or pick up curbside!

THE LIGHTING OF 29TH STREET

In addition to these two events, Pepper Place will also be lighting 29th Street for the first time on Friday, November 6th at 5 p.m. After working closely with the Mayor’s Office & the City of Birmingham, 29th Street will be strung with lights that carry from the Dr Pepper Building to the Martin Biscuit Building.

In an effort to keep everyone safe during the events, attendees are asked to practice social distancing, wear a face covering and respect social distancing guidelines.

Day of the Dead is a celebration of remembrance and life that honors the lives of those loved and lost, while enjoying the unique customs of this cross-cultural event. Check out all the DDLM details here!
