Last week we introduced you to 3 new local entrepreneurs and graduates of CO.STARTERS - an international program that helps budding entrepreneurs equip themselves with the information needed to succeed, while also connecting them to a network of established business owners. The Birmingham chapter, led by Create Birmingham, has seen some incredible talent this year.
Let’s meet our next 3 graduates!
WE Made
Since 1900, Workshops Empowerment, Inc. has served people in the Birmingham area helping them prepare for and find employment. WE Inc.’s newest program, WE Made, is a four month training program for individuals looking to further their vocational potential.
Beginning in May, participants in the WE Made program will be paid to mix and package quality dry food products while also attending job readiness and life skills courses to help participants prepare for a full time job upon leaving the WE Made program. WE Made’s first four products are mixes for hummingbird cake, biscuits, pound cake, and cornbread.
We are excited to bring these products to the Magic City, giving you the opportunity to try our delicious mixes and giving us the opportunity to serve more people. WE Made goods will soon be available at gift shops and small grocery stores across the state as well as online at www.wemadegoods.org.
A Curb Market
I’m Ambre Amari and am building a space and a movement that celebrates and showcases the incredible talent Birmingham has to offer — a gallery space and studio that functions and feels like a community market. Curating the up and coming along with the more established presenting them to the local community. My vision is to reimagine how we think of art and artistic spaces — breaking down the intimidation factor and making inspiration a part of our everyday lives. We have hourly rentable space for creatives including a conference room and a coffee wet bar common area. We also provide experiences that are unique to the Birmingham area that centers around the talented individuals of Birmingham.
We are currently getting ready for our fourth monthly makers market which is Mother’s Day Weekend (Thursday 4-7, Friday 4-7, and Saturday 10-5). Each market so far has been wildly successful with makers and local brands reporting doubling in growth of sales. These markets include interactive experiences. For example, live paintings by professional artists, brand founder tutorials, and mini-makers demos.
We offer access to our makers with monthly pop-ups at our location as well as shopping through Instagram. Currently we communicate exclusively with our audience through Instagram! Please follow Amari Curb Market for the latest details of what we are doing as it will be continuously evolving. Be a part of our journey and let the makers of Birmingham inspire you the way they inspire me.
Jennifer Pierce
Jennifer Pierce understands the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, as she spent years trying to treat health issues with medication before discovering the power of natural alternatives. She now aims to help other households by supplying all-natural cleaning products that come in recyclable containers to give families a safe way to tidy up their home. She’s currently testing two types of all-purpose cleaner, and you can help be a part of the decision-making process. Message cleansample@yahoo.com if you’d like to be a part of the survey (bottles cost $7).
