The COVID-19 pandemic changed daily life for people around the world quickly and dramatically. Overnight, parents became teachers when schools shut their doors. Professionals set up home offices in their bedrooms and kitchen tables. Essential workers confronted the dangers of a mysterious new illness with bravery, determination and countless new safety measures. People found themselves unemployed, furloughed and racked with worry about what the future might hold.
Throughout the country, ordinary people responded to the unprecedented challenge in extraordinary ways—pivoting to meet the needs of others in continually evolving circumstances. Many of those heroes live and work in the Magic City and, through their efforts big and small, we saw Birmingham rise. We’re excited to tell their stories.
