It’s another great week for events in the Magic City. International acts are stopping in town to join annual local favorites to make for an overflow of entertainment. Here are a few of our favorite things to look forward to this week in Birmingham.
Courtney Barnett at Iron City (Wednesday)
Courtney Barnett has been winning fans over for a decade now, with the musician’s unique songwriting style and live performance reputation leading the charge. Birmingham is excited to have Barnett visit this week, with Iron City providing hosting duties for this fun Wednesday night experience.
Gary Clark Jr. at Avondale Brewing (Friday)
Gary Clark Jr. is the type of musician that goes perfectly with an Alabama sunset on a (hopefully not crazy hot) September night. The talented artist will be providing this idealist combo in Birmingham this Friday night at Avondale Brewing. This is a show you aren’t going to want to miss.
Superhero Ball VIII (Friday)
While Black Market loves to brag about their “Evil Bartenders”, we know they are softies at heart. This fact is highlighted each year with the light-hearted charades of the Superhero Ball. This costumed, comic book-loving party has comic book trivia, giveaways from Sanctum, drink specials, and more. The 2022 edition takes place this Friday night at the 5 Points South location, so make sure to get your cap ironed and corny punchlines ready. This year’s event is playfully co-presented with Vought International from The Boys, so expect lots of family-friendly entertainment.
AEIVA Presents Lonnie Holley feat. Lee Baines (Saturday)
AEIVA is celebrating the would-be 94th birthday of Thornton Dial by hosting an exhibition of his work from September 9th to December 10th. The museum is taking the festivities even further by bringing famed improv musician Lonnie Holley and Southern rock’s caring conscience Lee Baines to ring in a landmark moment with a free show at the Alys Stephens Center this Saturday. Lee will also be playing an intimate show at Seasick Records a little bit earlier in the day.
Trussville City Fest (Saturday)
The residents of Trussville are celebrating their 42nd city fest, and this Saturday’s free event has to be the biggest one yet. The festivities take place all day at locations including Veteran’s Park, Main Street, and the Trussville Entertainment District. There will be a farmer’s market, art walk, car show, lots of live music, and plenty more to take in.
