It’s another great week for events in the Magic City. Live music is joined by Halloween celebrations, cooking contests, and other forms of entertainment to ensure that every day brings something new to Birmingham. Here are a few of the things we’d recommend checking out this week.

Avondale Community Fire Jam + Costume Contest (Wednesday)

The monthly fire jam that is put together by the fine folks at Luminarts Entertainment at Avondale Brewery is going to be even more fun with the October edition! A costume contest will be joining the usual festivities this Wednesday evening, which also includes live music and plenty of fire spinning to enjoy.

Blues Traveler at Iron City (Thursday)

We are not giving you the run around - Blues Traveler will be at Iron City in Birmingham on Thursday evening! The premiere Magic City venue is a great place to catch the legendary band and sing along loudly to some of your favorite tunes.

Steel City Jug Slammers at Trussville Entertainment District (Thursday)

The Steel City Jug Slammers are a unique musical experience that can’t be compared to any other band in the Magic City or beyond. Jug and tub bass reign supreme with this talented group, who will be showcasing their talents at Ferus Artisan Ales in the Trussville Entertainment District this Thursday. There are two great restaurants in the district, so come hungry and ready to have your ears pleasured.

The 11th Annual Salsa Showdown (Saturday)

Salsa and guac and queso, oh my! All can be found at Cahaba this Saturday. Image from Sidewalk

Salsa to support a good cause? Sounds wonderful to me! Sidewalk Cinema is bringing back its Salsa Showdown for its 11th edition. Salsa, guacamole, queso, and specialty dips will all be reviewed by attendees and special judges at Cahaba Brewing this Saturday beginning at 2pm.

Halloween at Sidewalk: The Lost Boys (Sunday)

Vampires - there’s always a catch to that eternal livin’! Image from Sidewalk

Sidewalk may be having a big day at Cahaba on Saturday, but that isn’t stopping the cinema from showing our favorite spooky films! The classic film ‘The Lost Boys’ will be shown at Sidewalk’s theaters below The Pizitz this Sunday as a Halloween celebration, and we’d recommend going if you aren’t scared of vampires!
