It’s yet another great week for events in the Magic City. National touring acts are coming into town, multiple markets are taking place, and plenty of unique festivals are all taking place this weekend. There are many great options for entertainment every day this week. Here are a few of our favorites.
Arts and Oddities Market (Thursday)
The Burks family and True Story Brewing Company have been known to put on some great events. Punk, hip-hop, heavy metal, 80s and 90s music, ska, and many other genres have all been given their own nights to be celebrated through live music and visual art. They are now partnering with Birmingham Oddities to bring the Arts and Oddities Market to True Story in a monthly celebration of all things strange. June 9th will start off the series that occurs on the second Thursday of each new month. This is an all-ages event that is sure to be a good time.
Neon Electric at Iron City (Friday)
Neon Electric has built quite the following in Birmingham due to their glorious DJ-led celebrations of 80s New Wave, Synthpop, and more. They will be bringing the music to Iron City on Friday in an event sponsored by the good people at Birmingham Mountain Radio. DJ A Flock of Geno, Memorexx, and John and Katie Gasier are guaranteed to have the feet moving at the Magic City’s most famously air-conditioned venue.
Eat A Peach at Avondale Brewery (Friday)
Eat A Peach brings together some of Toronto’s finest jam musicians in a touring tribute to a group that many of us hold dear: The Allman Brothers Band. Avondale Brewery has firmly cemented its place as one of the city’s premier venues, and spending a night listening to classic hits with a good beer and some delicious food in their backyard sounds like a fantastic way to start off the weekend.
First Annual Seafood Saturday
Avondale hardly takes a break after Eat A Peach Friday, as they turn around to bring us the first annual and very tasty Seafood Saturday the very next day. This tasty event is going to be a tough food roster to top with CoCo Crabs, Cousins Maine Lobster, and Crawdaddy’s coming together to create the ultimate food utopia. We would highly recommend checking out these food truck favorites. There will also be music and giveaways.
Central Alabama Caribbean Carnival (Saturday)
The Central Alabama Caribbean Carnival has to be one of the most fun and colorful annual events found in the Magic City. This celebration of Caribbean heritage and culture is hosted by the Central Alabama Caribbean American Foundation and features lots of great food, art, music, and more. The 2022 event will return to DeBardeleben Park and take place between 11am and 8pm.
Woodlawn Street Market (Saturday)
Another one of our favorite events is making its presence known this Saturday, as the Woodlawn Street Market returns to bring the finest varieties of food, art, clothing, candles, healthy dog food, and so much more to the people of Birmingham. If you want a good snapshot of what makes the Magic City so special, we’d recommend stopping by to support this fun and free event. This week’s edition will be an evening festival taking place from 5-9pm.
As you can see, there is a lot taking place in Birmingham over the next week. It doesn’t matter what you choose to attend, only that you’re creating another beautiful Magic City moment.
