Slow down? Birmingham doesn’t understand those sentiments - especially when it comes to hosting events in the year 2023. The Magic City has been on a hot streak and is bringing even more fun to those who call it home as we enter the middle of June. We’ve got birthday parties, concerts, and all sorts of fun happenings to choose from this week. Here are a few of our favorites.
Charley Crockett at Avondale Brewing (Thursday)
The last time Charley Crockett came to Birmingham it was clear that he was an artist on the rise. The country singer played a sold out show at Saturn, but an intimate pre-show set at Seasick Records meant even more fans in the city got to witness his greatness. Crockett is back and even bigger this go-around, which should make for a lovely evening at tonight’s show at Avondale Brewing.
Rojo’s 21st Birthday Party! at Rojo (Thursday)
Happy birthday to one of the most fun restaurants/bars in Birmingham! Rojo is turning 21 on Thursday, and is ready to celebrate their drinking age milestone with champagne, cake, and Dixieland Jazz music from Chuck and the Kings. This is a fun group of people to celebrate with, and we couldn’t think of a better occasion!
Buffalo Lemonpepper Project with Free Candy at The Nick (Friday)
These Alabama bands are two of the best acts to catch at a live performance, which put this Friday night show at The Nick on our most anticipated June concerts list. Both the Buffalo Lemonpepper Project and Free Candy are great at exploring what it means to play live music. We would highly recommend making it to this show at one of the city’s most storied venues.
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome at Sidewalk (Friday to Sunday)
It seems the entire world stopped to grieve the loss of Tina Turner, who lived an incredible and inspiring life. Tributes have come in many forms, but one of the most fun is enjoying Turner’s acting career. Sidewalk will be celebrating the icon by showing Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, featuring Tina Turner, all weekend long.
Sloss Furnace Benefit Bash at Sloss (Saturday)
Not only is Sloss Furnaces one of Birmingham’s most historical landmarks, it plays host to some of the city’s most fun events. One of these - Furnace Fest - is giving back to the venue by hosting a jam-packed benefit bash at Sloss this Saturday. Featured bands include Darkest Hour, The Acacia Strain, Integrity, Maylene & The Sons of Disaster, Left to Suffer, Capra, The Judas Cradle, Across Five Aprils, Holy+Gold, Reclaim The Empyre, Stay Lost, and Joyboy.
