Every week is a great week for events in Birmingham lately, but these seven days bring even more to the table than usual. One of the city’s most celebrated events returns, and joins multiple evenings of great music and other entertainment options to ensure that we are taken care of when it comes to having fun all week long. Here are a few events we’d highly recommend checking out.
Sidewalk Film Festival in Downtown Birmingham (All Week)
One of the biggest annual events in the Magic City is back for its 25th year! Sidewalk Film Festival is a beautiful celebration of all things cinema. Short stories, documentaries, independent films, music videos, and so much more are put on display all week long. This festival isn’t just a Birmingham treasure - it’s been lauded by international movie lovers. Be sure to take advantage of having something so special right here in your hometown.
Vibe Tribe Producer Showcase: August at The Upstairs at Avondale (Wednesday)
Luke Crowder returns to The Upstairs at Avondale with four of the city’s best music makers this Wednesday evening. This month’s edition features Samarie, Tuff Huff Production (with a live band), Prezzly P, and DJ Rick Nasty. DJ Quosto returns on DJ duties and favorite vendors including SheepBlack Design, Rose the Artist, KB, and CJ’s Jewelry will all be in attendance.
Summer Movie Nights - The Incredibles at Trussville Entertainment District (Thursday)
The Incredibles are one of the most endearing cartoon families in existence. A loving mom and dad who are looking out for their kids’ best interest while also saving the world from notorious super villains? That’s pretty tough to beat. The Trussville Entertainment District is showing a screening of this iconic movie on Thursday evening. Amenities include nearby restaurants and breweries along with a large yard for play space.
Switchfoot at Avondale Brewing (Saturday)
Switchfoot provided the soundtrack for many inspirational moments in the early 2000s. Families across the country would jam together in cars, radio stations would grace the air waves with motivational messages, and the world briefly united for something bigger than themselves. That’s how it felt at least. The band is bringing all their hits to Avondale Brewing this Saturday night in what is one of About Town’s most anticipated shows for August.
Juvenile at Avondale Brewing (Sunday)
Switchfoot tells us we were meant to live for so much more on Saturday at Avondale, but Juvenile provides the direct answers of how to do so with “Back That Azz Up”, “Slow Motion”, and countless other hits on Sunday night. Fresh off a highly successful Tiny Desk concert, Juvenile is hotter than ever and bound to put on a thrilling show.
