August brings forth another great month of events in the Magic City, and the first week is kicking things off with a bang. Fantastic concerts rule the next few days with Birmingham’s favorite venues, breweries, and pubs coming together to ensure that we have wonderful tunes to listen to. There are endless options to choose from, and each brings its own adventure. Here are a few we recommend checking out.

Grammy-winning producer Luke Crowder returns to host another showcase of the city's finest beatsmiths and music makers this Wednesday at Little London from 6 to 8pm. This month’s event features sapphbeats, Jazz Garfield, Nekaybaaw, World Premier, and 3.A.M with art from SpiderPark Art and fashion from SheepBlack Designs. This is a great free opportunity to see some of the creative community that makes Birmingham so special. I do also happen to be a co-host but these musicians and artists truly are world-level talents.

The band behind Goldpark is quickly becoming a national favorite, and the Nashville-based band will be taking on The Upstairs at Avondale this Wednesday night. Birmingham favorites Ranger and Rude & True will be opening, making for the idealistic weekday concert in the Magic City.

Taylor Hollingsworth at Cahaba (Thursday)

Taylor Hollingsworth is the people’s musician of Birmingham. Although he’s a nationally-renowned name that graces Guitar Center walls in other states, Hollingsworth is constantly providing fans in his hometown with a medley of free and cheap shows that don’t lesson in quality for his normal lights-out performance. His free set at Cahaba Brewing on Thursday will be an excellent set to take in, and great food from The Current at Cahaba pairs nicely with the venue’s great beverages.

Ham Bagby at Saturn (Friday)

One of Birmingham’s most cherished musicians, Ham Bagby, will be celebrating his new album release this Friday night at Saturn. His third record, titled “No Filler” is going to be a great one to rock to, and the additions of Rebecca Egeland and comedian Chris Ivey as openers only make the night more enticing.

Punk Night at True Story Brewing (Friday)

Art By Burx and True Story continue to bring some of the best rock-centered shows to the Magic City. Each month brings guarantees of nights dedicated to punk, metal, and more. Punk Night starts things off, with the August edition taking place this Friday beginning at 7pm. Featured banks include Tony Nix, Future Hate, Goodwin Rainer, and Grindle.

Besides wading through humid heat, what’s not to love about summer in Alabama? Glorious rays of sunshine join an increase in events to ensure that good times are had by all who seek them. The Vegabonds are celebrating this upbeat season at Avondale Brewery on Saturday with special guests Supper Club, Womz (of Futurebirds), Transistor, and Happy Landing.
