Birmingham’s food truck scene has become one of the city’s most exciting features, and it continues to grow with each new day. Every week in the Magic City features multiple opportunities to try a wide variety of tasty goodness that ranges from lemon pepper turkey legs to salmon quesadillas to strawberry shortcake berry bowls to vegan Philly cheesesteak egg rolls. I truly believe if we invited Belinda Carlisle to any one of Birmingham’s food truck meetups that occur on a routine basis, she would declare that we have successfully found a way to make “Heaven a place on Earth”. Here are just a few of the meetups that have us excited each week.

East Side Food Truck Park Wednesdays

The East Lake neighborhood has long cherished food classics like Wings Rings & Things (fka Joe & Debs) and El Girasol, but recent years have seen the emergence of more food opportunities. This includes the dozen or so food trucks setting up across from the Krispy Kreme on 1st Avenue North each Wednesday. The official time is 11am-7pm, with city favorites like Not Ya Average Leaf can often be found serving lunch much earlier in the day. Music, lots of refreshing treat options, and quick service make Wednesdays on 1st Avenue a relaxed and delightful experience. The day has become so popular that you can find many trucks returning to the same spot on Saturday and other days throughout the week.

West End Food Truck Park Thursdays

The Bushelon name may sound familiar to many in Birmingham, as they’ve long been helping families prepare their loved ones for the next stage after this physical realm through their funeral home. Arlillian Bushelon has upped the family’s community involvement by bringing the very popular West End Food Truck Park to the city every Thursday from 11am to 6pm. Over a dozen food trucks can be found here each week, serving everything from crab cakes to refreshing lemonade to ensure a good day for you and your crew.

Food Truck Fridays (Forestdale & Bessemer)

What better way to start off your weekend than with a belly full of all your favorite local food truck menu items? This golden opportunity is presented to Birmingham area residents every Friday. Forestdale hosts the trucks every first and third Friday in a shopping center parking lot found at 1224 Forestdale Boulevard, while the Bessemer edition is every second and fourth Friday at DeBardeleben Park. Both locations run from 11am to 7pm, and are quite the fun experience.

Coming Soon: Block B at City Walk BHAM

This map may show the parks and trails coming to Birmingham, but we will have to wait for City Walk to open to lay eyes on the delicious food that will be served. Image from City Walk

Birmingham’s soon-to-open City Walk BHAM is exciting many people just ahead of the World Games opening, and food truck owners are among the list of those excited. The walking trail/city attraction boasts a large collection of exciting improvements for the city including an official skate park, dog park, a new pond, a beer and wine garden, market space, outdoor education spaces, and most importantly a brand new permanent food truck park! Residents of the Magic City are about to have yet another great place to support their favorite businesses.

No matter which location or which truck you choose, all that matters is you are getting some sunshine, eating some great food, and enjoying a nice day out in Birmingham. We’d recommend trying them all!
