One of the most fun weekends of the year is here - the weekend leading up to Halloween! There are all sorts of fun parties planned throughout the city, with thousands of more gatherings taking place inside homes of Birminghamians all about town. These more personal get-togethers tend to enjoy the decorating and festivities just as much - if not more - than our official public establishments. But what all can be done to make our at-home party the best it can be? Here are a few fun ideas.
Themed Snacks
What do a witch, an eyeball, and a tombstone have in common? They can all be placed on a cookie that can then enter my belly! There is no limit to the number of fun ideas that can be created when thinking of Halloween-themed foods. I’ve seen witch’s brooms made from pretzel sticks and cheese, for goodness' sake! Drinks can also come with fun themes, and a quick Google search will give you the innovative spark you need to seriously impress your guests with the spooky eating options you present.
Spooky Backtracks
It’s hard to not have fun at a Halloween party. Everyone is in costumes, which makes for the easiest conversation starters of all time. But the music and background entertainment we choose can be the details that put the icing on the delicious cake that is your gathering. My former days of working at Party City informs me that “Thriller” is THE Halloween classic (being played at least once every hour at the store during October), but there are new and old songs in all genres that can make for a great Halloween playlist.
Games
Sure you’ll be dancing to the music, but what keeps people entertained when they need to sit down for a bit? Games of course! Jackbox.tv has some great haunted-themed games, and there are a thousand other board games to choose from. Some easy favorites in my personal friend group during more party-centered hangouts include Exploding Kittens, Most Likely To, and various card games of sorts - but anything is fun if you are playing with friends.
Be safe and have fun this weekend, Birmingham!
